reinforced return program

Return to work support program for mothers at professional/executive level. Practical planning and strategy informed by research evidence and the personal experience of Dr. Bailey Bosch.

Why invest in the Reinforced Return to Work Program?

Do you want to see your best employees return to work and thrive after taking maternity leave? Naturally, priorities and perspectives shift once a woman has a baby and as an employer you worry what that priority shift will mean for your business.

You may wonder

  • Will she return?

  • What will the transition back to work look like?

  • Will she stay and thrive as a leader now she has family commitments?

There is one way you can eliminate some of the concerns you have around this transition: the Reinforced Return Program.

What is the Reinforced Return Program?

The Reinforced Return Program is a one-of-a-kind program dedicated to helping professional mothers craft a successful transition back to work after taking maternity leave. For employers like you, providing this program to new Mums increases the chances of retaining your best employees. As the name suggests, this program is about strengthening and supporting a woman’s return to work ensuring the best possible outcome for both parties.

The Reinforced Return combines academic rigour with practical application to deliver pragmatic, intellectually stimulating and approachable interventions. Services are delivered by Dr. Bailey Bosch, who is both a businesswoman and a mother of five young children. She knows what works both in theory and in practice and is uniquely qualified to offer these services.

Support the Working Mum

You might think “Well, we already do enough”. You have policies in place around parental leave and offer flexible working arrangements. Those elements are crucial but what is lacking is the scaffolding that ties it all together: tailored support for wellness and individualised preparation as your employee transitions into life as a “Working Mum.” Whether this is her first child or not, every woman needs support tailored to her unique set of circumstances and obligations if she is to successfully return to the career she has worked so hard to establish.

Longitudinal research points to the psychological and contextual resources likely to help women meet the challenges of work re-entry. What is important to acknowledge is that high job demands do not have detrimental effects on returning employees so long as these demands do not enduringly exceed the resources needed to successfully deal with them.

By bolstering the psychological resources of employees returning to work following maternity leave, both the organisation and the individual benefits. After all, it makes commercial sense to invest in staff well-being.

Why only Mums? Isn’t that gender-typing a bit outdated?

In an ideal world, there would be no need for my services. Women would have access to physical and emotional support following the birth of her children regardless of whether she was in a partnership, typical family structure or not. The ‘village’ would kick in to support the new family as they ventured into unfamiliar territory. Despite all the talk, debate and social media analysis of the role of fathers and disdain for the term ‘working mother,’ the research is clear: women are still carrying a heavier load compared to men when it comes to juggling family and career. Time use studies show women are spending more time per day engaged in household activities than men, fathers are spending more time per week pursuing leisure activities than mothers and nearly 60% of millennial mothers report it is harder to get ahead in their career when juggling family and work compared to less than 20% of millennial fathers who felt the same. Significantly, the research points to the impacts on mental well-being for working mothers – with one study highlighting that 92% of working mothers say they felt overwhelmed juggling work, home and parenting.

Of course, this is not the experience of every working mother. Those who have the means to delegate some of the household responsibility and childcare experience better outcomes - that is, they have access to what the literature refers to as contextual resources: helpful social and structural conditions. For many working mothers, access to those resources is out of their immediate control. However, psychological resources are not!

I work with women to strengthen the psychological resources they need to successfully meet the demands of being a working mother. I also help strategise with both the individual and the organisation to improve access to contextual resources.

We already have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). How is this different?

This program is based on the simple philosophy of choosing ‘prevention’ over scrambling to address the issues when they inevitably arise. I believe by pre-empting the struggles and juggles and putting in solid preparation many of the major difficulties individuals face combining family and work can be eased. Many EAP packages are a ‘one-size-fits-all’. Each family is different. Each work role is different. The requirements of each individual will therefore be different. I offer individualised, tailored support with a strong emphasis on work/life integration.

What is the process?

Keep your best employees by offering a smoother transition out of maternity leave and into working motherhood.

Step 1: Sign up your employees during pregnancy.

Step 2: Invite your employees to go through the program while on maternity leave.

Step 3: Welcome your employees back to work with a personalised return package: this allows you to be more confident in knowing your best employees are getting the support they need to commence life as a working Mum.
